Rep. Henry Cuellar and his wife, Imelda Cuellar, were indicted and taken into custody on Friday. They allegedly accepted nearly $600,000 in bribes from a company controlled by Azerbaijan and a bank in Mexico. Cuellar has said they are innocent.

After NBC News reported that authorities are expected to indict Rep. Henry Cuellar on Friday, the Texas Democrat put out a statement proclaiming his innocence. “I want to be clear that both my wife and I are innocent of these allegations,” he said. “Everything I have done in Congress has been to serve the people of South Texas.” He said he will continue his reelection bid and predicted a win in November.

The Biden administration is expanding access to health insurance under the Affordable Care Act to some “Dreamers,” or young people who came to the U.S. as kids, as part of a rule to be introduced Friday. The Department of Health and Human Services estimated that 100,000 recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program would enroll.

Former President Donald Trump confirmed that he asked to go to the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, a key part of testimony he previously tried to discredit. “I said, ‘I’d like to go down there because I see a lot of people walking down,’” he said Wednesday. “They said, ‘Sir, it’s better if you don’t.’ I said, ‘Well, I’d like to.’” He said he then let it go.

The House voted Wednesday to pass a bill that would require the Department of Education to follow the definition of antisemitism from the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance. Some Democrats were staunchly opposed, as NOTUS reported, but the bill easily passed in a 320-91 vote.
