The bipartisan congressional task force investigating the July assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump is already in motion to look into an incident that took place at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The task force, led by Rep. Mike Kelly, has requested a member briefing from the U.S. Secret Service on what the FBI is saying “appears to be an attempted assassination of former President Trump,” NOTUS has confirmed.

Kelly told NOTUS that the task force is interested in talking with local law enforcement, the FBI and the Secret Service about the Sunday incident. While he said the team already has “hours” of meetings with the Secret Service on the July attempt, he hopes to hear more from the agency about what happened in Florida.

“I can’t imagine being Mr. Trump or any of the Trump children and knowing that their father now has been targeted twice,” Kelly said.

Kelly said that task force members had a “conference call” and are scheduled to have another call about the incident on Monday. He did not specify whether that call would include anyone from the Secret Service.

The congressman, who was present at the July Pennsylvania rally when the first assassination attempt took place, called Trump “one tough cat” but wondered at what point his family would ask him to stay “inside” to avoid more possible threats against the former president.

When asked if he himself would recommend that Trump cut the number of public appearances he makes, Kelly laughed and said that the former president would likely not listen.

Trump “always gives me that wink,” Kelly responded, and asks the congressman how his wife is doing.
